Depression and Anxiety

Some say that everyone becomes depressed at some point in their life. Have you ever been depressed? I have, so I understand exactly how detrimental this illness can be.

According to www.psychiatry.org, depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act. See, right there in the definition is the word “common”. Meaning that it is a normal occurrence in humans.

Being sad and down frequently can impede on your social life, work, relationships, and overall well-being. This happens to all of us and we usually just say we are in a bad mood. What if that mood last for weeks? Days? Years? Then it’s time to seek help. Self awareness is key.

Depression is serious matter that can lead to self-mutilation and harm. I encourage everyone to be aware of the content you consume, the people you interact with, and the things you eat.

Self-care habits such a journaling can make you feel a whole lot better. Write everything you feel down and let it go. Burn it, rip it, flush it down the toilet, just do whatever you have to do to let the thoughts that no longer serve you go.

Practice positive self talk. Say things like I AM ENOUGH. I AM BEAUTIFUL. I DESERVE TO LIVE A GREAT LIFE. I WILL BE SUCCESSFUL.

Take walks in nature, feel the presence of nature and become grounded. Find your roots.

Meditate. Be still with silence and remove all the clutter from your mind.

Speak with someone, please. Talk to a friend, a parent, a counselor, a family member. Let it out, don’t hold the pain in, it will literally kill you.

Pain is a normal part of life that can either break you or make you better. We are in control of our own lives, so make your journey here a little better by practicing self-care. #youdeserveit
